According to this theory physical dimensions , emotional as well as physical feelings and both quantitative and qualitative quantities are considered as it is with respect to a zero point i.e It is determined by contrasting it with similar type of quantity(zero point)

What is this zero point ???

Determination of zero point varies with for different quantities but mostly it is the average of what an individual faced over his lifetime

To explain you better let me explain by an very simple example.

Consider cane sugar , We all know how it tastes( sweet , isn't it? ) . That is because it is sweeter than our zero points which happens to be the average of all the food we have tasted and it is nearly about the taste of water.

So when we say "Its sweet" we are actually contrasting the taste of Cane sugar to that of our Zero point (nearly taste of water)

 So what if we start feeding a child only with the taste of sugar , right from his birth ??

Hypothetically, the child will have a sweeter zero point and will judge an average sweet cake to be bitter .

So where do this theory apply in our lives ?

If I don't answer this question , all my keystrokes would definately go in vain.

Nobody really likes pain and grief in their lives but trust me if these things didn't exist you would be like that child judging an average cake as bitter . So yeah you can say if you feel happy sometimes , it is because that you know what pain feels like.
So more the pain and grief you have , more the joy and happiness you experience out of little things.



So if you think you have got problems in your live , be Happy , because you know it right ?
